Visual artists Alicia Popoff and Leslie Potter are launching a touring
exhibition of their work entitled, THIRD SOUND for September 1 through 31.
The work consists of Alicia's canvas paintings and Leslieʼs welded steel sculptures.
Potter says, “Working in close proximity to each other we realize that we
influence each other's art. More recently, however, we have become excited
about how Alicia's paintings resonate with my sculptures and vice-versa.”
Donald Stein, Executive Director of the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery and
the curator of THIRD SOUND says, “Alicia Popoff and Leslie Potter are making
innovative new work that fuses their disciplines and reflects the dynamic of family
values along with artistic self expression.”
Popoff adds, “We decided to create a visual dialogue with our art, a
process in which we respond to each other's work in an informal way. This has
included discussion about our respective art making but it is primarily a visual
exchange.”
The two artists will also be conducting three ART WORKSHOPS on Saturday Sept 11 and Sunday Sept 12 in Weyburn, to engage other artists and interested groups. The artists believe this will increase appreciation of contemporary art practices and the creative process involved in art making. For more information on the workshops, “Welded Steel Sculptural Art” (2 days), “Creative & Innovative Approaches to Painting” (1 day) and “The Beauty of Abstraction” (1 day), go to www.weyburnartscouncil.ca, dial Weyburn Arts Council's new phone number: 842-3922 or e-mail weyburnartscouncil@live.ca.
A wine & cheese GALLERY RECEPTION to meet the artists will be held at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery on Friday September 10 at 7:00 pm. Alicia and Les are very much looking forward to meeting the people of Weyburn. They will also conduct a Talk & Tour of their artwork in the Gallery. Everyone is invited; silver collection at the door.

Mixed media artworks: original pencil drawings altered by digital technology.
Brackpool's artwork is driven by a need to create simplicity in response to the chaos of life. She strives to choose simple images that bring meaning to people – to have the viewer feel a connection to what they see. She loves the freedom, flexibility and versatility of drawing with graphite pencils: there is room for trial and error. Her love of computer art & photo programmes led her to an idea: to combine the two mediums.
”Provenance”, a selection of Brackoool's current body of works, reveal how times are changing: how digital technology can be used with other mediums to create something entirely new. Incorporating computer graphic technology into her pencil work – experimenting with lighting, colours, filters and layering - creates a unique fusion of traditional and new mediums for even greater freedom of expression and creativity for this artist.
